Boulder, CO (PRWEB) September 8, 2005
The industry's leading information-technology (IT) advisory company, Diogenes Analytical Laboratories, Inc., announced the winners of the Diogenes LabsÂStorage magazine Quality Awards for backup and recovery software. The award was presented to two products: CommVault Galaxy in the enterprise category, and EMC/Dantz Retrospect in the small-medium business (SMB) category. The winners are featured in the September 2005 issue of Storage magazine. A copy of the expanded report may be found at http://www.diogeneslab.com.
The Diogenes Labs and Storage magazine Quality Awards are based on the results of a Diogenes Labs survey of more than 400 backup and recovery users drawn from Storage magazine's qualified subscriber base of storage administrators, managers and storage-focused IT professionals. The survey rates each product on a 1.0-8.0 scale according to criteria most closely related to a productÂs suitability, price, TCO, and reliability: sales competence, product features, product quality, product reliability and technical support. Each category was scored separately and averaged to find the highest aggregate score.
Fourteen products were included in the survey, eight in the enterprise class and six in the SMB class. Many IT organizations use multiple backup and recovery products, and participants were permitted to respond for more than one product. In all, 465 respondents provided 775 product evaluations. The survey has a +/- 4% margin of error with a 95% confidence factor. This award is the only award in the storage industry to be determined by an empirical, statistically valid methodology.
"Backup and recovery remains such a problematic area for IT organizations that there is always a temptation to believe that the 'grass is greener' with another product," said Phil Goodwin, president of Diogenes. "The Diogenes Labs Â- Storage magazine Quality Award results help IT organizations to learn from the experience of other users before embarking on a costly and time consuming product conversion."
