A Fairytale with a New Spin Gets Book Tour with Borders

The Princess Briana fairytale hits home with young girls. The lessons of self-love and acceptance are cleverly woven into this inspirational story.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 8, 2005 -- One of the hottest African American children's books, Princess Briana is crossing color lines and state lines with a book tour to six cities. Borders tour stop dates include:

*   September 10th in Cleveland, OH at 2:00 PM (Special Event - East Cleveland Public Library with Borders)
*   October 8th in Greensboro, NC at 2:00 PM
*   October 15th in Austell, Georgia (Atlanta area) at 2:00 PM
*   October 22nd in Chicago, IL (Beverly store) at 2:00 PM
*   October 29th in Charlotte, NC (Stonecrest store) at 2:00 PM
*   November 19th in Largo, MD (Washington, DC area) at 2:00 PM

AOL's Black Voices called the author of Princess Briana, Yaba Baker, "the new face of Black childrens literature." Princess Briana is one of the few fairytales featuring Black characters with a universal message that crosses racial lines. Rachel, age 11, summed up why this fairytale is for all girls by saying, "It teaches you no matter what color you are, no matter how big you are, or how skinny you are, that you should be proud of who you are, no matter what."

The Princess Briana book tour promises to be more than just a book signing. At each tour stop (except for the East Cleveland Public Library event) the children play games, win prizes, and participate in storytelling. The girls are bestowed the title of princess and the boys in attendance are bestowed the title of prince. Some lucky children will get toy crowns to take home. Near the end of the event, the author signs books.

Yaba Baker said, "The positive feedback from parents and their daughters has been overwhelming at these events. Many media images have been over emphasizing being super skinny, having perfect skin, and perfect hair to the detriment of young girls health. Girls are literally killing themselves (with anorexia and bulimia) trying to attain this perfect image. Princess Briana is an example of self-love and positive self-image that all girls can relate to."

The Princess Briana book can be ordered at any major bookstore using the title and the author's name, Yaba Baker. The book can also be ordered directly from the publisher at www.justlikemebooks.com/shop.html.
