The American College's Art Exhibition is Joining Forces"

Expressing both abstract ideas and universal beliefs through figure painting, the human form and portraits is the subject of Joining Forces: Portrait and Figure," a new exhibition taking place on the campus of The American College in The Colleges Gregg Conference Center Gallery. The show features four Philadelphia artists who challenge tradition by exploring the power of the human form in portrait and figure paintings. Opening on September 16, the exhibition will run until October 26.

Bryn Mawr, PA (PRWEB) September 8, 2005 -- Expressing both abstract ideas and universal beliefs through figure painting, the human form and portraits is the subject of Joining Forces: Portrait and Figure," a new exhibition taking place on the campus of The American College in The Colleges Gregg Conference Center Gallery. The show features four Philadelphia artists who challenge tradition by exploring the power of the human form in portrait and figure paintings. Opening on September 16, the exhibition will run until October 26.

Alexandra Tyng is one of the four artists on display. Tyngs paintings feature individuals in formal portraits. Her work seeks to fuse subject and composition and provide insight into the subjects inner thoughts and feelings. Another of the artists featured in this exhibition is Carla Tudor. Her paintings depict people engaged in the activities of everyday life -- revealing the drama, tension and comedy that we all experience daily.

Eliza Auths paintings depict people at both work and play. Her work represents both figure painting and portraits of real individuals. The work of Nancy Bea Miller in this extraordinary exhibition creates a sense of stillness with a sense of impending movement -- as if a moment of life were held in suspension.

Provocative questions are raised by this show," according to Marjorie Fletcher, Curator of The Gregg Conference Center Gallery at The American College. Portraiture usually focuses on a literal depiction of an individuals form and features. Figure painting seeks to capture the individuality of the model."

This exhibition extends the boundaries between portraits and figure painting, challenging the observer to define the differences between the two. There is no easy answer." Fletcher added, And the paintings are uniquely exciting."

The American College and The American College Alumni Association are sponsoring this exhibition. The Alumni Association consists of 150,000 designation and degree graduates of The College and is dedicated to increasing affinity with the institution. Volunteerism, recognition and networking are just some of the opportunities available to members of this organization.
