New children's book, One Incredible Dog! Boone," takes readers through a typical day in the life of a Search and Rescue dog. Local law enforcement calls Boones owners and handlers, Jim and Terri Heck, whenever they need assistance. Boone is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether his task is to find a lost child, a wandering Alzheimers patient, or a criminal in hiding, Boone is on the job.

Warwick, NY (PRWEB) September 9, 2005 -- Publisher Moo Press of Warwick, NY announces the publication of One Incredible Dog! Boone, a true account of a bloodhound who works every day (and many nights!) as a Search and Rescue dog. This early reader for ages 4-8 presents nonfiction information in a story format. Sure to entertain as well as inform, this book honors the incredible things dogs do for people every day.

One Incredible Dog! Boone takes readers through a typical day in the life of a Search and Rescue dog. Local law enforcement calls Boones owners and handlers, Jim and Terri Heck, whenever they need assistance. Boone is a decorated Search and Rescue (SAR) dog that earned his Canine Good Citizen status in 1999 from the American Kennel Club. He later received several awards for his search and rescue work: the Pennsylvania Lifesaving Award and the American Bloodhound Clubs Mantrailer Excellent Title. Nominated by Sgt. Gregory L. Starner, Newberry Township, PA, Police Department for the American Kennel Clubs ACE award, Boone won a Bronze medal and an Honorable Mention.

Dogs possess special gifts and senses that are superior to humans. Their strength and ability to see in the dark, and to hear and smell what is undetectable to humans reduce search time, increasing the chances of a victim being found alive. Bloodhounds in particular, which have been used in mantrailing as far back as the 16th century, have such a keen sense of smell that the results of their trailing performances are permissible in court.

In New Cumberland, PA, Jim and Terri Heck formed Summit Search and Rescue, a nonprofit organization, where they volunteer with Boone and another Bloodhound named Comanche. In addition, they keep busy doing demonstrations, safety awareness programs, and visits to schools, libraries, churches, police and fire departments, and other organizations.
