Sakura of America announces new 18 watercolor field sketch kit and three new sizes of water brushes.

Sakura of America announced today the introduction of an 18-color field sketch kit and three new water brushes. These new products give landscape and outdoor artists an expanded range of products from the 12-color field sketch kit that was introduced two years ago by Sakura.

Peter Ouyang, Vice President of Product Development and Marketing Director, explains Sakura's decision to introduce these new products, "We were pleasantly surprised to the response we got with our 12-color set. Based on that reaction, we knew there was a market out there for more products for the watercolorist on-the-go."

The new field sketch kit weighs 4.4 ounces, measures 4 5/8" wide x 3" high x 7/8" deep, and fits easily in pockets, purses and backpacks. Because Koi watercolors are designed to easily blend together three large and two smaller mixing wells are conveniently molded inside the white snap lid cover. The set also comes with a wooden #2 round brush that can be easily put together and taken apart and fits in the case.

The 18 cakes of colors in the kit include Chinese White, Ivory Black, Prussian Blue, Cobalt Blue Hue, Viridian Hue, Yellow Green, Light Red, Vermillion Hue, Crimson Lake, Yellow Ochre, Deep Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Ultramarine, Deep Green, Burnt Umber, Purple, Cerulean Blue, and Jaune Brilliant.

The 18-color set has a manufacturer's suggested retail price, or MSRP, of $29.95 and each waterbrush will have an MSRP of $6.98. With comparable sketch kits retailing for $60, Sakura's reputation for combining quality at a good price remains intact.

Like the 12-color set, the 18-color kit is smartly merchandised in a cardboard box that is suitable for either shelf or store peg. The water brushes are merchandised in re-sealable, hanging pouches.

As part of their commitment to wandering watercolorists, Sakura is also introducing three new water brushes. With self-contained water reservoirs inside their handles, the brushes directly and conveniently deliver water to the brush tips.

With three different sizes to choose from -- small #2 round, medium #6 round, large # round---artists now have the option of three different nylon brushes to create fine lines or broad, washed strokes. The water brushes are easily screwed together and can be unscrewed into two 2 7/8" components.

Koi watercolors are certified non-toxic to children by the Arts & Creative Materials Institute and are also available in sets of 12 and 18 color tubes.

Headquartered in Hayward, CA, Sakura of America is the U.S. subsidiary of privately held, Sakura Color Products Corp. of Osaka, Japan. Besides Koi Watercolors, Sakura invented oil pastels and manufactures Cray-Pas oil pastels. Sakura also invented gel ink and manufactures the popular Gelly Roll gel pen, as well as Pigma® Micron fine-line pens, in addition to other high-quality writing instruments and art materials.
