Moon Cakes, Lion Head Dancing, Feasting and More: Peking Toms Celebrates The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival September 17th, 2005

The Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, also know as the Mooncake Festival", is the second largest festival in Chinese culture and is traditionally a time for families to gather under the new autumn moon for games and a meal provided by the recent harvest. Similar to Thanksgiving, it is a time of family reunion and if family members can not be together for the event it is customary to look out at the sky, knowing they are sharing the same full moon with loved ones.

(PRWEB) September 8, 2005 -- To celebrate this time of reunion, Peking Toms, an award-winning Chinese restaurant developed by the Eat Drink Laugh Restaurant Group, presents on September 17th, 2005 (aka 'Moon Welcoming Night) a family-style 3-course feast for $25 per person. The celebration will include a traditional Chinese Lion Head Dance, where a serpentine-like Chinese Lion will dance, jump and wind its way through the dining room and bar to the beat of pounding drums, bright colors and lively sounds in this authentic Chinese dance for luck, as well as the traditional moon cakes associated with the Festivals legend.

Held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, this years official festival date is September 18th, 2005. Many different legends surround the origin of the Moon Festival, which has been traced back as far as 200 B.C. According to one legend, Ancient China was attacked by enemies who took control of the Chinese food and homes. The Chinese mounted a counter-attack through the use of moon cakes" or circular desert foods. In these cakes they placed secret messages that contained the details of the counter-attack. The Chinese emerged victorious, and to this day, moon cakes are eaten in honor of this victory for the month surrounding the Festival.

Peking Toms has been described as big from the get-go" (Bon Appetite) where tiki meets cheeky" (Zagat Guide) in a sexy lounge with great food where traditional Chinese dishes are given a gourmet makeover" (Boston Magazines Concierge). Where upscale versions of such classics as sticky spare ribs and crab rangoon are entirely finger-lickable in their own right (at) the hippest HUH in the Hub" (Boston Globe), Peking Toms is Zagat Rated, was awarded Best Group Dining 2004 by Boston Magazine, Best After Work Cocktails 2004 & Best New Concept 2003 by The Improper Bostonian.
