Ince & Co, the City based Top-100 law firm, is in the process of rolling out BigHand Digital Dictation software to its global network. The technology has already been installed across London, Paris, Le Havre and Piraeus bringing significant benefits for lawyers at those offices in terms of international working. BigHand software will now go to the firm's Hamburg, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Shanghai offices.
Ince & Co's Shipping & Trade practice is rated No.1 in London and the Asia Pacific region, and their 'International Emergency Response Team' is often required on site around the globe at major disasters or incidents. The response team can often be required to take statements from many of the parties involved. Provided with a suitable Internet connection BigHand software enables statements to be processed by secretaries in London instantly from wherever the lawyers are in the world. This has improved client service, removed workload from the remote workers and smoothed the peak of work that can take place when lawyers return to the office with bundles of tapes.
The firm's offices in Paris & Le Havre have also found that although 95 percent of their work is native French language, using local secretaries on-site, occasionally specialist English work is required. With BigHand Digital Dictation French lawyers now utilize CWP based in London, at the touch of a button, saving the cost of employing multi-lingual secretaries locally. During the next stage of the roll out, if local resources are not available, lawyers in all the Asia offices will be able to utilize the secretarial capacity based in the Hong Kong regional head office; and even route work to the CWP in London for overnight processing if required.
Frank White, Head of IT at Ince & Co, commented:
ÂFor some time we have offered a seamless Remote Access System where lawyers have quick, easy and secure access to their desktop from remote locations or international offices. The only piece of the remote working jigsaw that remained was the dictation infrastructure. Digital dictation workflow has solved both language support issues and the problem of traveling & working across different time zones whilst maintaining productivity. The BigHand system has allowed us to move the practice toward true international workflow.Â
ÂWe selected BigHand software because of its simplicity, and because it works. Everything you ask of the technology - whether it is via fat or thin client environments, across one or many sites - it has proven extremely robust. With dictation being such a core system this attribute is critical, especially when rolling it out across an international network.
ÂEvery Head of IT will know that every time you add a new system to the firm's suite it adds to the overall support load. The strength of BigHand technology is demonstrated by the minimal impact it has had in this area.Â
