Kindred Media Group announced today it will release "On the Outs" domestically in theaters January 13, 2006, in association with Polychrome Pictures. The critically acclaimed urban drama was produced by Youth House Productions and Fader Films, and all North American rights have been acquired by Polychrome Pictures. The announcement comes on the one year anniversary of the film's world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in 2004.
Kindred and Polychrome have also announced that they have entered into a multi-film distribution agreement whereby certain Polychrome film acquisitions will be distributed theatrically by Kindred. "On The Outs" will be the first picture in the deal.
"On the Outs" stars Anny Mariano, Judy Marte ("Raising Victor Vargas") and Paola Mendoza and entwines tales of three young women whose lives intersect on the blighted streets of New Jersey, and in a New Jersey juvenile detention center.
After its premiere at Toronto, "On The Outs" went on to acclaim on the international festival circuit including a Europoean premiere at the 2005 Berlin Film Festival, and the annual Slamdance Film Festival where it won both the Grand Jury Sparky Award for best narrative feature as well as the dramatic audience award, the first time one film has taken both top honors in the history of that film festival. It also recently premiered at the Deauville Film Festival, winning the Grand Jury Prize, in advance of its commercial premiere in France where it is planned to open on over 40 screens.
"On the Outs" marks the feature debut of critically acclaimed directors, Lori Silverbush and Michael Skolnik who celebrated a pair of nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards for their work on the film. Together with Paola Mendoza, Skolnik and Silverbush, who also wrote the film, spent time working with actual women in a juvenile detention center to pull together autobiographical sketches which became the basis for the film. Many of the girls from the detention center appear in the film and the entire film was shot on location.

Polychrome and Kindred have teamed with the marketing team at Cornerstone Promotion, who handled "Hustle and Flow," to aggressively market the film. The distribution deal was negotiated by Andrew Herwitz, President of Film Sales International, and Arnie Holland.
