Tesseract School Offers Free Tuition and Housing for Two Katrina Families

Tesseract School, an independent school in the Phoenix area, is offering free tuition and housing to two independent school families displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. (PRWEB) September 16, 2005 -- A local independent school is offering to host two independent school families from New Orleans displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Tesseract School, located at 4800 East Doubletree Ranch Road in Paradise Valley, is offering free tuition and housing sponsorship for two families with children in the pre-school to eight grade levels.

"Weve gotten word that 10 independent schools in the New Orleans area have been closed due to the destruction of the hurricane," said Nigel Taplin, head of Tesseract School. "We are working closely with the National Association of Independent Schools and the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, which are acting as clearing houses to match families with schools in different regions."

Taplin said Tesseract School felt compelled to reach out and offer after the tuition-free assistance for two families after seeing the hurricanes destruction.

"We were all been shocked by the devastation," he said. "Hurricane Katrina left so many homeless and without resources and nearly wiped out the New Orleans area -- including schools. As an independent school, and as a concerned and caring community, we wanted to offer help."

According to Taplin, who is also the chairman of the Arizona Association of Independent Schools, the key to the offer was to be able to offer the displaced families housing as well as tuition.

"We put out a request to our parents and were overwhelmed by their response to give free housing and other assistance to support these two families," he said.

Tesseract School is a non-profit private foundation that provides a rigorous and broad curriculum for pre-school through eighth grade.
