Many Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) September 18, 2005 -- Business leaders were locked up this week. Not because of illegal activity, but because they were recruited to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association / "Jerrys Kids."
Joseph McElmeel, Chairman and CEO of Brooke Chase Associates, Inc., was asked to be "locked up" on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 13th, and he took the challenge head on to raise the $2,000 bail set by MDA. In just 3 weeks Joe McElmeel was able to raise $6,600.37. How did he do it? He mailed over 450 personal letters and numerous emails to clients, friends, family and associates asking for help in raising the money. With some clever wording and a well placed picture of Joe behind bars, the marketing effort took shape.
"I thought with hurricane Katrina, Id be lucky to raise the $2,000. Saying you will contribute but then actually writing the check and putting it in the mail is what takes the effort. I was pleasantly surprised at the generous outpouring of donations I received from family, friends, and business relationships both in Sarasota and nationwide. They really came through. I was shocked to learn how many of 'friends' wanted to keep me locked up; while others thought I looked quite at home behind bars in the flyer we sent out. Regardless, I am very appreciative of their tremendous response. With 25 years as an executive recruiter and working with executives across the country, I knew they would get behind this cause and contribute generously; and they did. I hope this helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association as it is one organization that I enjoy supporting," says Joe McElmeel.
