This seminar will be a well-rounded presentation of complex land use laws, local ordinances and trial techniques. The seminar will be taught by attorneys from the Government Affairs Department of the law firm of Kummer Kaempfer Bonner & Renshaw. The attorneys primarily practice land use and zoning in Clark County, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson. Additionally, as development has extended into the outlying areas surrounding Las Vegas, the practice has also spread into Pahrump and Nye County. Finally, the Government Affairs Department also has a legislative practice which handles a variety of land use, water and other development-related issues during the state legislative session.
Topics will include recent development trends in Southern Nevada including the growth of new urbanist communities where people can live, work and play. Responding to this trend has culminated in an increase of high-rise and mixed-used developments as well as innovative master-planned communities which are specifically designed to include these components. Other topics will include recent legislative changes to both zoning laws and annexation of property into neighboring jurisdictions. Finally, the seminar will include an in-depth discussion on how to prepare a land use case for court, including the applicability of Nevada case law and procedural issues.
