Delta State University Sophomore Wins 2005 Annual Legislative Conference Commemorative Poster Design Competition

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. offers poster contest opportunity for aspiring artists to be featured at this year's conference.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 20, 2005 -- The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) has announced John Spencer Strickland as its Commemorative Poster Design Competition. The 18 year-old Tennessee college student's design will be the featured artwork for the 35th Annual Legislative Conference, themed Unity...Power...Progress.

"CBCF actively looks for ways to celebrate young people. We saw that an art competition would be a good opportunity to encourage young artists and provide them with some incentive to build their careers," said Dr. Don I. Tharpe, President and CEO of CBCF.

Strickland, when told of the news remarked, "I set out to create a piece of artwork that would both entertain and inform. I am honored that my work will represent this year's conference. This event is a great opportunity for me."

As the grand prize winner, Mr. Strickland will be a special guest of the Annual Legislative Conference occurring September 21 - 24 in Washington, DC, and will received a $2500 cash award among other prizes. Mr. Strickland is a sophomore at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi pursuing a graphic arts degree. He has previously won several art competitions, including the Tennessee Department of Transportation 2004 Aviation Art Contest.
