emBoot Inc. announces that Realtek Semiconductor CorpÂ?s RTL8139 series 10/100 Ethernet controllers and RTL8169 series Gigabit Ethernet controllers have passed emBoot Labs PXE testing and certification services.

Mississauga, ON, Canada, September 27, 2005 -- emBoot Inc. announces that Realtek Semiconductor Corp’s RTL8139 series 10/100 Ethernet controllers and RTL8169 series Gigabit Ethernet controllers have passed emBoot Labs PXE testing and certification services.

emBoot’s PXE certification services are the only formalized resource for NIC and ASIC vendors to ensure their PXE implementations are 100% compliant with the PXE specification. This is increasingly important as PXE's NIC-specific drivers are being used as transport layers for management products (e.g. Microsoft RIS, Symantec Ghost, Altiris Client Management Suite and emBoot’s iSCSI network boot software, netBoot/i).

"Realtek recognizes the value of the PXE standard. PXE enables our customers to fully manage their networked resources, whether they are performing disaster recovery, deployments, or remote administration," commented Luke Huang, Director of Product Development at Realtek Semiconductor Corp., "Now that our RTL8139 and RTL8169 line of Ethernet controllers are PXE certified by emBoot our customers are assured of proper interoperability with management software that leverages PXE."

emBoot's test suite is the most exhaustive PXE test available, and draws upon emBoot’s ongoing expertise with the industry wide PXE specification. Network booting via PXE is used by businesses world wide to simplify and enable diskless operation of servers, desktops (e.g. boot from iSCSI SAN) and thin client devices, remote management, disaster recovery, deployment and provisioning.

"Promoting a certification standard helps raise the overall quality of PXE implementations, which in turn helps management software utilize various network boot solutions such as remote management or iSCSI boot from SAN." says emBoot founder George Kostiuk. "We are pleased that Realtek Semiconductor Corp. has recognized the importance of this initiative and that their extremely popular RTL8139 and RTL8169 controllers are now 100% PXE compliant".
