King Tractor Takes A Blog, Comic Book Publisher Records Events

King Tractor Press starts blog to document trials of new comic book publisher.

(PRWEB) September 22, 2005 -- King Tractor Press has started a daily blog at http://www.kingtractor.blogspot.com to document the process of creating a comic book. The publisher is only 10 months old, but already has a lot of experience under it's belt.

The King Tractor Blog on blogspot is the small publisher's newest attempt to attract new readers. Recent changes in the comic book industry have left independent publishers with little hope of distribution outside the grassroots support. The sole comic book distributor for much of the industry, Diamond Distributors, has raised it's minimum order requirements to get distributed which effectively stops brand new independent titles that haven't had the exposure to build fans like DC or Marvel.

"With Diamond dropping support of new indy comic books, the monthly periodical has been almost exclusively closed off to anyone except the current big boys," says Shawn Granger, a writer at King Tractor Press and blog scribe. "The cost of paper has gone up, direct sales are shrinking [comic stores and the market is being squeezed by all sorts of outside competition."

King Tractor Press asserts that by publishing genres not common to the comic industry, they expand into the general market. As Japanese Manga has proven, there is a large audience for graphic novels who aren't being served by the super hero books out today. Mr. Granger said "We believe that people unfamiliar with comic books will be interested in what we're doing. These aren't your regular Superman or Spider-Man books, but we've got horror, western, romance, true crime, and spiritual books coming out. The blog is just one more way for us to reach out to the rest of the world. With the high costs of printing one book we definitely need their support to survive."

So far the King Tractor Blog has documented the company's origin, showcased artwork, and artists. In one of the recent blog posts, Mr. Granger writes about the King Tractor artist D.F. Cole who has been missing since hurricane Katrina. D.F's first two issues of "Innocent" that he was working on are gone, probably washed away. But as Shawn posted, the missing art is definitely not the worst of it. "I hope D.F. is okay and if anyone hears from him tell him to drop me an email. The art we can replace."

King Tractor Press is publishing also be releasing "Innocent", "Gene Gardens", "Devil Water" and "Family Bones". You can learn more about the company and the comics that they publish at http://www.kingtractor.blogspot.com.
