NFL Week 3

Week 2 Recap

The hits just keep coming for leading sportsbooks as Joe Square, person who only bets favorites, took another beating in NFL Week 2. All books reporting another stellar NFL Sunday. Games in which over 70% of the action came in on one side, Joe Public’s record was a dismal 1-5 in games. Check out for more on last week’s games and our results.

Week 3 Sports Marketwatch

We chug along and move on to NFL Week 3. No matter how much we preach the value in betting underdogs and not basing your picks solely on last week’s performance people keep on doing it. Need proof? Take a look at how last weekend’s BIG blow out winners are faring this week.

-Oakland vs Philadelphia-

Circle this game! Is Oakland really that bad? Will they make every throw to Randy Moss in crunch time? All questions to be answered versus Philly. But watch it - this is a classic trap game. Oakland isn’t that bad, and Philly just beat the stuffing out of a team that might not win 2 games this year. The line opened at -8 and Joe Square can’t get enough with 79% of bets placed so far have been on Philly. There must be an early edition floating around with Monday’s NFL scores. Man, would I love to get my hands on next Monday’s paper on Thursday afternoon! BUT amazingly enough the line has moved from -8 to -7.5??? Is there any clearer indicating that Sharp money has coming on Philly. Still lots of +8 out there.

The line manager at has this to say about the game.

“As expected following Philly’s impressive blowout win against San Francisco and the media’s hyping of McNabb’s 5 TDs, the public is pounding Philly. The real surprise is all early Sharp action on Oakland forcing us to move off 8 to 7.5. Pinnacle and WWTS had already moved off 8 to 7.5.”

-Cincinnati vs Chicago-

Cincinnati finally looks like they’ve turned the corner. Now let’s see how they do against a team that plays D. Classical trap game, every red flag in the database is blinking like its Xmas.

Oasis declared that this is shaping up to be one their biggest games of the weekend. “My grandmother just called and bet on Cincinnati. This is scary,” joked line manager at Steve Stone. The public thinks this is a weak line -- come on Cincinnati -3? It’s too easy. When you hear yourself saying things like, “they should be at least a 6 point favorite.” Take the other side.

As can be expected, lots of early Cincinnati action on this game, 82%. I don’t think the books will move off 3, but I’d wait until Sunday to see if I can get a +3.5.

-Carolina vs Miami-

Have I mentioned how much I love betting home dogs in the NFL? Miami is another strong value play. All books reporting heavy one sided square action on Carolina 79%. Wait until Sunday and you’ll see lots of +3.5 on the board.

-Tennessee vs St Louis-

Pinnacle is reporting they opened this game at -5.5 -113, and were immediately swarmed by the sharps, who quickly bet them down to -6 -109. Then, the whales moved in. These are individual players that when they take a position, they move the market. I was told that several of these larger bettors played the favorite at -109, forcing Pinnacle to move defensively to -6.5.

Oasis experienced similar Sharp action and moved accordingly to -6.5. I’ve even seen a couple of -7 on the boards.
