Orlando, FL (PRWEB) September 24, 2005
The Annie Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization located in Orlando, Florida whose Mission is to improve the quality of life for animals, has completed two mercy trips to Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina delivering well over 2,000 lbs. of pet food and supplies. See the story with pictures at http://theanniefoundation.org .
This group is a grass roots organization working directly with pet owners outside the realm of what the larger organizations do. In their recent trips to the Hurricane Disaster area, specifically two trips to Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, they discovered a unique niche. Displaced pets and their families are staying at hotels/motels along the coast. While they may have brought with them enough pet food to last a short time, the unexpected devastation to their homes has resulted in prolonged stays.
The Vice President, Scott Evans, ascertained the need to deliver food and other supplies directly to these places of refuge for the benefit of the pets. NO ONE ELSE WAS DOING THIS!!! The Foundation appreciates the cooperation of the many hotels who provided pet reception areas in their lobbies so that their guests...two legged and four legged....could take advantage of the provisions delivered by The Annie Foundation. They are now reloading their rescue vehicle and readying their Pet Emergency Response Team for the trip to the areas of need created by Hurricane Rita.
The Annie Foundation would like to thank all of those who have visited their website and generously made contributions to this effort. The Mission is ongoing and is not merely Disaster Related. They encourage everyone to visit their website, study closely the Mission, the People and their objectives and open their hearts and wallets to help those who cannot speak for themselves.
Annie Evans, President and Founder of The Annie Foundation, when reached this afternoon for comment said: "We will endeavor to do all that we can for those stricken by these terrible natural disasters. The real tragedy is the over population and over breeding of all domestic pets. Our goal, wherever we may be, is Zero Population Growth, and the guarantee that all animals will have adequate veterinary care in times of extraordinary events for which the cost would be otherwise prohibitive."
When asked how The Annie Foundation will accomplish this goal, Annie said, ..."we are anticipating that enough good and generous people will help us, just as the response has been during this latest crisis to help the pets of the Gulf Coast. We are an all volunteer organization. The Directors work full time and receive no salary, but rather donate their own resources to further the Mission. Every penny donated or earned through the sale of merchandise is utilized entirely for the benefit of the animals. All office, vehicle and routine expenses are met by the directors."
