Web Designers Gear Up Again for Hurricane Rita
The webmasters of HurricaneKatrinaSurvivors.com have setup a new site to support Hurricane Rita. www.hurricaneritasurvivors.com
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) September 24, 2005 -- The founders of www.HurricaneKatrinaSurvivors.com have just created www.HurricaneRitaSurvivors.com to help those in this storm's path.
www.HurricaneRitaSurvivors.com's predecessor, Hurricanekatrinasurvivors.com, based in Ormond Beach, FL began on August 28, 2005. It's initial purpose was to provide a central location for the affected people to go to for information regarding outages, road closures, school openings, shelters, etc. Once the magnitude of the devastation was clear, we immediately set up forum boards for people to list the missing and inform family members of the survivors. A chat room was set up for people to come together and help each other. We then brought on additional volunteers to start cross-searching our names with names on other sites. At its peak, HKS had a volunteer staff near 20 and received approximately 3 million hits per day. Our efforts to reunite families continues even with the new impending storm.
Now, we have been called into action once again. We have recently learned that Rita is already a CAT 5 and is expected to slam into the east Texas coast by the end of the week. In taking the lead in getting this site up, we hope that evacuees will post where they are going to help families locate them after the storm. We learned through Katrina, that had they posted where they were going, a lot of people would not have gone "missing".
We proved ourselves to you with Katrina that we were here just to help and we thank you for all the support you gave us during that time. Through our efforts with Katrina, we attained an unexpected notoriety through the press. Maybe it's because we do not ask for money or donations - we simply provide a service to those in need. We are not a corporation or a large not-for-profit, yet our link was right beside The American Red Cross and other large relief agencies. In fact, 4000 other websites linked to us. Please help us get the word out about www.HurricaneRitaSurvivors.com as you did for Katrina.
Thank you.
