Newman Elected President of Annual Association of Health Insurance Advisors (AHIA)

During the recent 15th Annual Association of Health Insurance Advisors(AHIA) Luncheon in Kansas City, MO, it was announced that Debra C. Newman, CLU, ChFC, LTCP was elected to AHIAs Board of Directors as President. AHIA is the official health conference of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). The only other Minnesotan to hold the presidents post was Bill Clifford.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) September 25, 2005 -- During the recent 15th Annual Association of Health Insurance Advisors(AHIA) Luncheon in Kansas City, MO, it was announced that Debra C. Newman, CLU, ChFC, LTCP was elected to AHIAs Board of Directors as President. AHIA is the official health conference of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). The only other Minnesotan to hold the presidents post was Bill Clifford.    

The following officers were elected to the 2005-2006 AHIA Board of Directors: Debra C. Newman, CLU, ChFC, LTCP as President, Lawrence E. Lounds, CLU, ChFC as President-Elect; Sam Cunningham, CLU, ChFC, RHU as Treasurer; and Thomas VanderWal as Secretary. All of the Board members have experience in local and national leadership positions within the NAIFA federation.

A 25-year veteran of financial services and insurance, Newman is the Chief Executive Officer and owner of Minneapolis based Newman Long Term Care, an agency she founded in 1990 to focus solely on long-term care insurance. Licensed in over 49 states, her business has grown to one of the largest LTCi agencies in the United States. Debra is a nationally recognized expert in long-term care insurance and has earned the coveted Million Dollar Round Table distinction and most recently the LTCP (Long Term Care Professional) designation.

She has served at many levels of state and local leadership of NAIFA. Newman was formerly the President-Elect of the National Board of Directors of AHIA. She has twice spoken at the National Private LTC Conference, at the Society of Actuaries Annual LTC Conference, and at the Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters Conference. She has been a featured speaker at NAIFA State Conferences in Arkansas, North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota and Virginia. Newman was also a guest speaker for the 2004 State Focus Group on Policy Briefing on LTC Options in Minnesota.

As a well-known educator on long-term care issues, Newman has taught continuing education classes for the Bar Association, Society of Certified Public Accountants, International Association of Financial Planners, Estate Planning Council, University of Minnesota, NAIFA National Convention, as well as numerous other national and state organizations and educational institutions.

Newman is recognized throughout the nation for producing CDs for consumers and professionals on the process of making the right decisions about LTCI. She has made guest appearances on KMSP-TV, WCCO-AM, KLBB-AM and Metro Cable Network (MCN). Her articles have been published in Advisor Today, Broker World, GAMA International, Health Insurance Matters, Journal of Retirement Planning, Metro Doctor and other local and nationally distributed periodicals.
