Springboard Receives Nationwide Approval for Bankruptcy Counseling from U.S. Trustee

Springboard Non-profit Consumer Credit Management is one of only four agencies approved by Executive Office of US Trustee to provide pre-filing counseling nationwide under new bankruptcy law.

Springboard Non-profit Consumer Credit Management has received official approval as a Credit Counseling Agency from the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees to provide the required pre-petition “budget briefing” to consumers that becomes effective October 17th under the new bankruptcy reform law. Springboard received nationwide approval for in-person (not available in all judicial districts) telephone, and Internet delivery methods. Approval is for all 94 Judicial Districts across the country, and Springboard is one of only four agencies to receive nationwide approved from the EOUST. Approval is granted for a six-month period, and other credit counseling agency approvals are expected to be announced shortly by the U.S. Trustee.

Under the new law, an individual may not be a debtor unless they complete an individual "Budget Briefing Session" with an approved, Nonprofit Budget and Credit Counseling Agency during 180-day period preceding the date of filing the bankruptcy petition. A certificate of completion must be obtained once they have completed the Budget Briefing Session in order to file a bankruptcy petition.

Springboard has also applied to deliver required pre-discharge debtor education under the new law, and approval as an education provider is still pending with the Trustees.
