Meet "Young Patriots Series" creator Florrie Binford Kichler as she introduces America's heroes and heroines to young readers at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville TN on October 8.
(PRWEB) September 30, 2005 -- Meet Americas historical heroes and heroines as children when Young Patriots Series creator Florrie Binford Kichler visits the Southern Festival of Books (www.http://www.tn-humanities.org/festival/current.php) on Saturday, October 8.
In a presentation at 9:00 am at the Childrens Theatre, Ms. Kichler will bring famous Americans to life for young readers, spotlighting Phillis Wheatley, Young Revolutionary Poet, the astonishing story of the young slave who overcame tremendous obstacles to become one of the first African-American poets and the first African-American to publish a book.
In a lively and informative program, Florrie will also discuss southern heroes profiled in the Young Patriots Series, such as Juliette Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, William Henry Harrison, 9th US president, and Mahalia Jackson, native of New Orleans and the Queen of Gospel."
Role models arent perfect and kids are kids no matter what century they live in," notes Florrie. Whether its Juliette Low climbing trees when she should be sewing, or William Henry Harrison running away from his tutor to go fishing, children of today will recognize themselves in each one of the Young Patriots Series heroes and heroines."
Originally published 50 years ago as the Childhood of Famous Americans Series, the Young Patriots Series titles were known by millions of baby-boomers as the orange biographies" due to their bright orange covers. Forty years after a long childhood illness that began Ms. Kichlers love affair with reading AND those orange biographies, she founded her company with the mission of reintroducing the old series, long since out of print, to todays children.
