Minneapolis based lapidary John Schmidt of Blue Heron Gem recently discovered a miracle in stone.
A nodule of high-grade Morrisonite Jasper was cut and revealed a stunning, realistic image of Christ and the Cross. In addition, other faces can be seen in the surrounding pattern. This image was painstakingly cut into a gemstone in cabochon form and is currently being offered on eBay.
Lapidary John Schmidt, the cutter of the stone, said: "I immediately realized the unprecedented value and collectibility of the gemstone. I used state of the art diamond tools to cut and polish the gemstone to its maximum brilliance. Morrisonite, also called the 'King of Jaspers,' often displays interesting patterns; however, I have never seen anything quite like this and certainly never will again. Gem cutters everywhere can only dream of having such incredible luck."
The auction ends Sunday 10/2/2005 at 9:54 pm CDT and the gemstone can be viewed at the following link:
