5 Minute Networking Premieres in Washington, DC
An innovation in business networking where attendees meet 20 business professionals in 5-minute one-on-one segments during the event.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 5, 2005 -- The premier 5 Minute Networking event for Washington, DC will take place on Wednesday, January 19 at 6 p.m. at Ozios Restaurant Lounge. This is a novel event in that event attendees will be able to meet up to 20 business professionals in their community, during one-on-one, 5-minute increments. Local business woman, Vivieca Lee of J. Carol & Associates, is the director of this event.
Under the 5 Minute Networking format, guests are guaranteed not only up to 20 introductions, but they can also describe their respective businesses, exchange business cards, and pass on referrals.
5 Minute Networking was started by two Newport Beach, California sisters, both entrepreneurs in their own right. Sonia English is a natural-born networker, and the owner of the website design and development company eFlation. Melissa English is the author of CAUTION: Valedictorian Turned Waiter, a high school career guidance book that educates students on the importance of thinking ahead to careers and developing skills that will be of use in the workplace.
As business owners, both Sonia and Melissa realize the benefit of networking. Yet, after attending numerous mediocre networking events in their surrounding cities, they decided there must be a better way to business network. Many networking events face the same shortfalls as a junior high school dance: It is easier to speak to the people you arrived with than introduce yourself to someone new," says Sonia. Melissa and I wanted to create a forum where introductions are guaranteed and where people can cut to the chase – who are you, what do you do, how you can help each other."
The two sisters assert that 5 Minute Networking is sensitive to the needs of business owners: It is effective and time efficient. Although the musical chairs element of the event keeps it fun, the structured format ensures a productive evening of business networking. A deal may not be struck in five minutes" adds Melissa, but it is plenty of time to establish a connection that can be built upon outside of the event."
Events are also scheduled to take place in New York City, Columbia, and Atlanta and, in the coming months, Sonia and Melissa are seeking event coordinators to facilitate events in other cities throughout the United States. In addition to business networking events, 5 Minute Networking co-sponsors networking events for organization fundraising, and provides events for corporate team building.
