Bill Johnson, author of "A Story is a Promise," offers an online writing workshop through the University of California, San Diego. Class begins February 10th. Cost, $195.
(PRWEB) January 9, 2005 -- Bill Johnson, the author of "A Story is a Promise," will teach an online writing workshop designed to guide writers toward a keen understanding of the principle underlying all well-told stories-that a story is both a promise made and a promise kept. The workshop offers writers of all levels and genres new ideas on the essential element of storytelling, starting a story with a dynamic, engaging opening that names a story's promise. Students will learn how to recognize how popular novels introduce their promise, and how to transfer that understanding to their own stories and novels. The class features discussion, critique, and individual feedback.
Contact information to register for the class is available at the University of California, San Diego web site, www.extension.ucsd.edu/writing. Cost of class is $195. The class includes four online class sessions that meet on February 10th and 24th, and March 10th and 24th. For more information, email Tania Mayer at tmayer@ucsd.edu.
Mr. Johnson has been taught writing workshops around the United States, and he was recently a featured speaker at Expo 3, a screenwriting conference in Los Angeles that attracted 3,000 writers. He's a produced playwright, and webmaster of Essays on the Craft of Dramatic Writing, www.storyispromise, a website that explores principles of storytelling through reviews of popular stories. He's also the author of The Combat Poets of Maya, a humorous science fiction novel in the vein of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. His poetry is on-line at www.authorsden.com/billjohnson.
