TV Host Takes Her Fight Against Obesity To Readers Of Fiction

TV Host Says New Study Proves Diet Alone Wont Defeat Battle Of The Bulge

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) January 21, 2005 -- PBS health series host Edita Kaye said today that the findings of a year long study of four well-known diets is further vindication of her view that diet alone wont defeat the battle of the bulge.

Speaking about the findings of a study of the Atkins, Ornish, Weight Watchers and the Zone diets, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Kaye said that what most concerns her is that the majority of participants had a hard time sticking with any of these diets.

Were constantly bombarded by messages of food excess and the value of super sizing," Kaye said. We have to find new ways of delivering the message of the value of healthy living."

To achieve this, Kaye, the author of several diet books and executive producer and host of her own national PBS series, The Fountain of Youth, is aiming at a new audience, publishing her first work of fiction titled, The Diet (Wave Books, 2005 ISBN 0974095524 www.dietnovel.com).

Shes hopeful her new voice will both entertain and motivate her readers to lead healthier lives. People are tired of being preached to," Kaye said. We have to reach them on a different level. If were going have any impact on the staggering obesity statistics we have to incorporate a lifestyle adjustment in any food plan," she added.

I hope my readers will identify with my protagonist Cate, who like me, has struggled with food addiction. Her struggle to free herself speaks to anyone confronted by the repeated failure of diets of denial. The Diet is about food you can love that will love you back," Kaye added.

Conducted at Tufts-New England Medical Center, the study placed 160 overweight people between the ages of 22 and 72 on one of the four diets for 12 months. Though some lost substantial amounts of weight initially, only about 25 percent were able to follow their diet closely throughout the year.

Author of Bone Builders, Cooking Skinny, as well as The Fountain of Youth, Edita Kaye was also executive producer and host of her own national PBS series, The Fountain of Youth. Her work has been featured in many publications including The Chicago Tribune, Woman's World Magazine, Parade, Redbook, Ladies' Home Journal and First For Women. Doubleday Book Club, Literary Guild, and Christian Book Club have also selected her books.
