Security Methods Launches Managed Security Services, As Smaller Companies Face Specter of Sarbanes-Oxley

Security Methods Inc., a leading provider of information security services, is launching SMi Managed Security Services in a bid to help smaller companies meet forthcoming Sarbanes-Oxley Act reporting requirements. Under section 404 of the Act, companies with revenue under $75 million must comply with provisions that call for the establishment of internal financial controls, including information security, by July 15, 2005. But unlike their larger counterparts, smaller firms are having trouble absorbing the costs of compliance, according to analysts and industry observers.

Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) January 20, 2005 -- Security Methods Inc., a leading provider of information security services, today announced the launch of SMi Managed Security Services in a bid to help smaller companies meet forthcoming Sarbanes-Oxley Act reporting requirements.

Under section 404 of the Act, companies with revenue under $75 million have until July 15, 2005, before they must comply with provisions that call for the establishment of internal financial controls including information security.

But unlike their larger counterparts, smaller firms are having trouble absorbing the costs of compliance, according to analysts and industry observers.

We've seen too many consulting firms take a ‘one-size-fits-all approach, doing things like saddling small enterprises with security programs that would challenge even large, mature organizations," said Carson Sweet, Security Methods Principal Director. Smaller companies need risk management programs that scale to their needs if theyre going to be sustainable. The alternative is to thrash and struggle with something far too taxing."

SMi Managed Security Services will provide packages featuring the automation and support that compliance-driven organizations need, such as those required to fulfill standards like Sarbanes-Oxley, ISO-17799, SAS70 and COBIT. System features like self-documenting workflow, threat-management, compliance reporting and policy management tools help streamline time-consuming compliance tasks, say clients now using the solution.

Small to medium-sized enterprises can now readily access comprehensive and intuitive security management automation, as well as management support provided by our established professional services," said Sweet, a CISSP and CISM-certified security specialist. The flexibility of these offerings opens up choices to companies who have found traditional managed security services too rigid or limited in scope."

The security management methodologies underlying the service were developed by Security Methods over a 10-year period and have been widely tested at global blue chips. Developing the automation platform from the ground up took roughly three years of effort by a team of public and private-sector security and application experts, in addition.

Clients queuing-up for the new service can access an innovative support platform that combines remote and onsite skills delivery, security management appliances and web-based portal technologies, according to Sweet.

The regulatory burdens like Sarbanes-Oxley disproportionately affect smaller companies," Sweet said. Those facing it [SOX have been asking for tools to streamline all aspects of the security process, and we have responded."
