New Campus Security Survey Provides Benchmark for Campus Security Directors

Ninety colleges and universities nationwide participate in survey to gauge what is and is not being done to protect campuses in the post-9/11 world.

Melville, NY (PRWEB) January 19, 2005 -- Robert Schaefer Inc. (RSI), a marketing communications and research firm having clients in the security industry, recently conducted a survey of security managers at colleges and universities across The United States. The survey was funded by RSI client, FJC Security Services Inc. The results of the survey, Campus Security in the Age of Terror, are available as a benchmark to anyone interested in college or university security programs and security directors interested in comparing their own schools security measures in the post-9/11 world.

Campus Security in the Age of Terror provides quantitative information on what schools are doing to meet the challenges of protecting their students, faculty, employees and facilities in the era of heightened threats. Some of the many challenges dealt with include striking a balance between increased security and the traditional openness of U.S. campuses; finding the funds necessary to implement increased security measures; protecting hazardous materials that terrorist groups may want to acquire; and determining if schools have switched from a reactive mode to one focused on prevention. Some of the results may surprise you.

College and university campuses are examples of the ‘soft targets the FBI has said they believe terrorists may be interested in attacking" said FJC Security Services Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Frank Califano Jr. We sponsored this survey as a public service to the educational community, to help identify trends in campus security since 9/11. The responses that were received from 90 schools in at least 37 states -- from small community colleges to major universities -- provide a cross-section of U.S. campuses. We are pleased to offer the results of this survey free of charge, in the hope that it will help campus administrators and security directors improve the safety of their students, faculty and staff."
