Sniffing for Democracy Radio Tour Hits Australia

The Radio Tour for Sniffing for Democracy moved to Australia January 20th. Host Annie Gastin of The Australian Broadcasting Company interviewed Dr. Pamela Meek, creator of Sniffing for Democracy, on her morning radio show.

(PRWEB) January 21, 2005 -- Thus far Dr. Meek has been interviewed throughout the United States. Radio stations in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston Cincinnati, Portland and Tampa have questioned her about how to talk with children about war, voting rights and democracy. "Sniffing for Democracy" teaches children that war is rarely warranted. The dog characters state categorically that the president was wrong to start a war in a country that had not threatened their country directly. In the radio interviews Dr. Meek likened this approach to war to how children are taught to behave on the playground. They are taught to use their words rather than their fists.

Annie Gastin, Radio ABC Australia, asked Dr. Meek what kind of response shed gotten thus far. Dr. Meek responded that criticizing the current administration wasnt always appreciated. What was the title of the sequel to "Sniffing for Democracy?" Dr. Meek said [Our Democracy] Doesnt Smell Right Yet!"

Black and chocolate Labrador retrievers instruct the reader about voting rights. A dog named Tom Paine educates about true democracy and what it smells like, so theyll know it when they smell it. A true democracy smells exhilarating.

"Sniffing for Democracy" is a crash course in politics, war and voting rights for children. Inspired by current events in the United States Dr. Meek and her daughter, eleven year old Nora P. Meek, worked together to fashion a child-friendly book to educate young people. Their goal was to motivate children to become more involved in the world they will inherit.

The book includes a study guide for parents and teachers which can also be downloaded from the internet from the Sniffing for Democracy website. Topics covered include democratic principles, voting rights, freedom of speech, war, pollution, outsourcing and capitalism.
