Artfact Offers Free Online Art Research Tools

Artfact offers a wealth of free information, including artists bios and definitions for fine art and design styles and movements. With complimentary registration, visitors can access a database of summary auction records, and free unlimited searches of upcoming auctions.

(PRWEB) January 24, 2005 -- Since its re-launch in December 2003, Artfact has invested significant resources to meet the information needs of the antiques and fine art market. Since 1989, Artfact has offered the largest and most complete database of auction sales results in the world. Now, Artfact is pleased to introduce new free services such as the Fine Art Style Guide and Artist Directory. Artfact strives to offer a wealth of accessible free information as well as a variety of database subscription plans to meet the needs of the art and antiques market. Truly a "one stop" solution, Artfact dramatically simplifies art & antiques research, appraisal and pricing. For information, visit www.artfact.com or call 617-252-5020.

Artfact continues to introduce valuable and informative features. Two new free features just introduced are the Fine Art Style Guide and an Artist Directory, which together comprise the worlds largest open encyclopedia of art (no fee or registration required). Offered in association with Grove Art Dictionary, an Oxford University Press publication, the Artist Directory includes more than 500,000 pages, and links for nearly fifty thousand American and European artists, including biographies and examples of the artists works sold recently at more than 500 auction houses. The Fine Art Style Guide provides definitions, examples and additional links on more than 40 fine art and design styles and movements. Artfact will soon introduce similar free Directories for Furniture, Decorative Arts, and Collectibles.

With complimentary registration, visitors can also access Fine Art Prices, a database of summary auction records on almost 50,000 American and European artists with original auction estimates, prices realized, dimensions, brief descriptions, and any available images for a complete range of paintings, sculpture, works on paper, prints and photography. Fast and simple search results can be sorted by date and by price.

Registered users also have free, unlimited, and searchable access to complete catalogues from Upcoming Auctions by close to 100 of the most experienced and reliable auction houses in the United States. Upcoming catalogs are unabridged from the original auction house versions including all of the original research and digital photography.

"Part of Artfact's mission has always been education," comments Jonathan Fairbanks, Vice President of Research and Curator Emeritus at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. "While providing the information services that the market needs, we also want to be known for advancing an understanding and appreciation of antiques and art through our free educational features and directories."

Artfact Premium, the newest database paid subscription level, provides unlimited access to the last five years of auction records: more than two million auction catalogue entries and the highest concentration of digital photos available anywhere. Auction houses, antique dealers and art galleries, art and financial advisors, collectors, appraisers, and estate attorneys will find that Artfact Premium offers the most useful information at the greatest value. A subscription costs as little as $35 a month or $375 annually. Unlike other databases that provide only partial records, Artfact's database records include all of the available original auction house information, research, condition, provenance, estimated and realized prices, and photos.

Comments Lynel Leonard, Vice President of Operations. "Active dealers, traders and collectors will find that this new level of subscription offers them access to a depth of information that allows them to both ascertain current market values and analyze price trends over the past five years."

For those dealers, collectors, and appraisers who only need to track recently or frequently sold antiques and art items, Artfact Basic provides unlimited access to the previous twelve months of auction results for just $10 for a one-month subscription.
