The point is that Ebay has risen it's fees almost to the point where it does not make sense to list low margin items anymore. Once a long time ago deals were found on Ebay, but with such a rise in fees it no longer makes sense for companies and consumers to shop around in an auction to find out that you paid the same amount, if not more than you would if you went to the store.
We felt that offering a free auction for basic listings would allow people and companies to continue to list low cost items or low margin items and still keep your profit. It costs you nothing to list your items, with no limit.
Listings are 100% free, regardless of sale price.
http://auction.sqlspace.com is still in BETA and during this time it is free to list and free to bid. We envision this to remain for most of 2005, if not longer. We are actually striving for this to work as our business model, using ads as the sole provider of revenue for sqlspace.com. Currently we do not even have ads placed because the project is still in Beta.
You can think of us as the opensource version of ebay.
