Winners of the prestigious 2005 Top 10 Most Romantic Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns Award, given for the 11th straight year by publisher American Historic Inns, Inc. and companion website iloveinns.com, are sharing their ideas for planning a romantic getaway.

(PRWEB) January 31, 2005 -- Winners of the prestigious 2005 Top 10 Most Romantic Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns Award, given for the 11th straight year by publisher American Historic Inns, Inc., are sharing their ideas for planning a romantic getaway.

Innkeepers play a fascinating role when romance is concerned. At times they are asked to be the keeper of secrets and orchestrator of dreams come true. To a growing number of travelers, inns serve as the key to romantic escapes. 2005 Top 10 Most Romantic Inns innkeepers offer the following tips:

5 Tips For Romantic Escapes:

1. The sky is the limit. Unlike most large hotels, bed and breakfasts can create a unique experience for you and your love. Dont be afraid to ask for the world, as innkeepers make it their top priority that your every wish is granted and all details attended to. Arrange to have rose petals scattered throughout your suite, breakfast in bed, or make preparations for the proposal of your dreams.

The Swann House of Washington, D.C. created a storybook event by having a horse-drawn carriage escort a couple to an award-winning restaurant. When they returned to the inn, their suite was transformed into a romantic paradise filled with 300 red roses, where the groom-to-be proposed and received a definitive yes" from his astonished love.

2. Surprise! There is no better way to spice up your love life than to surprise your partner, especially with a bed and breakfast or country inn escape. The Inn at Vaucluse Spring of Stephens City, Va. encourages surprise getaways for their visitors. The surprisee usually knows he or she is going away, just not where, or what other surprises await such as a World War II fighting plane adventure, secluded picnic or a massage by candlelight" described Innkeeper Neil Myers.

One surprise at Vaucluse Spring happened when a man told his wife that they would camp for the night after a day of hiking. They were ostensibly just stopping by the inn to take a peek at the end of the day. She suspected nothing until discovering that the cottage they were looking at contained a huge bouquet of roses with her name on it and in the bathroom the Jacuzzi was running with candles and champagne at the ready. Myers said with a smile they never made it to dinner."

3. Know the deepest desires of your lover. Innkeepers suggest that before you plan a romantic B&B retreat that you should take time to study your lover. Know what truly makes him or her tick. Is hot weather best, or a colder climate preferred? Are specific activities enjoyed? What instills romance? Do certain scents evoke pleasure? Once you grasp what is desired, you can feel confident as you create your special plan.

4. History and Nature breeds romance. When considering a property, you might want to look into the history of it and its region. History, in combination with natural surroundings, can create unparalleled mystique.

The magic of an inn makes the difference," said Sylvia Muller, innkeeper of The Mill House Inn. The inn, built in 1790 and surrounded by spectacular ocean beaches, pristine bays and picturesque country roads, has been witness to two centuries of romantic ventures. Muller is proud of the Mill houses record where wedding engagements are concerned, as no one has ever said no" to a proposal in its years of operation.

5. Be Adventurous. One way to enhance your love life is to embark on an adventure. Pack your bags without knowing where you will end up, or reserve a room at a romantic inn and then create an adventure within the surrounding area.

The Inn at Vaucluse Spring recommends a hot air balloon ride, Brumder Mansion an antiquing adventure within the historic district of Milwaukee and Wine & Roses advocates getting lost among the many award-winning wineries in the area. For ultimate adventure, Alma del Monte of Taos, N.M. suggests a ski vacation in the winter or, when the snow melts in the spring, a llama trek in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The 2005 Top 10 Most Romantic Inns were chosen for many attributes including a sense of place, decor, superb hospitality and overall romantic mystique:
