(PRWEB) October 3, 2005 -- A new book entitled Ivan: the Full Story has been published as the Cayman Islands reflect on its worst natural disaster in history one year on.
'Ivan: the Full Story provides a moving and compelling account of this unforgettable piece of Cayman Islands history. Authored by Dominic Tonner, Deputy Editor of the Cayman Observer newspaper, the book provides a comprehensive account of the hurricane which threatened to destroy the well known and enviable standard of living of the Cayman Islands."
The book is published by Focus Communications. Paul Byles, Managing Director of Focus said, I have seen the tremendous work that Dominic has put into this project over the past year and this result is well worth the wait". The book also seems set to become the unofficial historic record of the hurricane for the Cayman Islands.
The book includes an extensive and highly personal foreword from the Governor of the Cayman Islands, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy who said: The book is an extraordinary tribute to the spirit of the Caymanian people and I am sure it will serve as an important historical document for many generations to come."
Ivan: the Full Story speaks of extraordinary experiences, heroes, politics, media controversy, and ultimately a nation brought together by a defiant Caymanian spirit". The books author, Dominic Tonner has worked previously for a variety of publications and media organizations in London, England, including the BBC, the Financial Times, Information Age and The Sunday Times.
While working for The Sunday Times, he was a contributor to the newspapers coverage of some of the most significant news events of recent years, including the Enron scandal, the investigation into the terrorist attacks of 9/11, and the Madrid rail bombings.
I feel honored to have been involved in a project of such significance," said Tonner. Having experienced the wrath of the hurricane myself in the offices of the Cayman Observer, I hope that this book will help not only from a historic perspective, but also to show the character and resilience of the Caymanian people" he continued.
As the Cayman Islands try to recover from the devastating event, proceeds are being collected by the National Recovery Fund which is assisting in providing funding to the needy to rebuild their homes. In recognition of this effort the publishers of the new Ivan book will provide 25% of all proceeds from the sale of the book directly to the Recovery Fund.
