Get Out the Lederhosen and Steins -- It's Time for Oktoberfest

Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley and Marketing Maniacs host the Second Annual Oktoberfest Celebration to be held at the Circle of Palms in Downtown San Jose.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2005 -- Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley and Marketing Maniacs will host the Second Annual Oktoberfest Celebration to be held at the Circle of Palms in Downtown San Jose.

The first Oktoberfest was not really a festival at all, but the public celebration of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig later to become King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. They had such a great time they decided to celebrate again the next year, and the next, and next.

Almost 200 years later Oktoberfest in Munich is the world's largest festival with over 6 million people showing up to consume 6.4 million liters of beer, 500,000 roasted chickens, and more than 400,000 sausages.

Now the purpose of the Oktoberfest celebration is to give thanks for the past year's harvest and to share in the joy and company of family and friends, says Steve Tedesco, President Boys & Girls Club.

The San Jose Oktoberfest has not quite reached those numbers but will still get you in that Oktoberfest spirit with German Oompa music, traditional German buffet, polkas and of course the infamous chicken dance! For the non-traditionalists dance music will be performed by NU DAY one of the Bay Area's most popular bands.

Authentic Hofbrau Munchen Oktoberfestbier hailing from Hofbrauhaus, the world's most famous pub will be served. Founded in 1589 by a Bavarian duke to provide beer to his court, it is one of only 6 beers allowed to be sold at Oktoberfest in Munich, and is actually brewed and owned by the state of Bavaria. Arnie, are you listening?

To get the most out of your Bavarian experience brush up on the words to Ein Prosit", the infamous Bavarian drinking song and be ready slide onto one of the long communal tables with the traditional blue & white check clothes. Grab a sausage and a beer, lift your stein and shout, Prost! Now you're ready!

Event Information: The 2005 San Jose Oktoberfest will be held on Friday, October 7, 2005 from 5-11pm at the Circle of Palms at 160 South Market Street in Downtown San Jose. This is a 21 and over only event. To reserve a table visit www.sanjoseoktoberfest.com or call (408) 280-0435.
