Deacon Media is aiming high, confident that "Financial Accounting Get it Straight" is only the first of many under the Get it Straight Label. But who in the world needs another Accounting book, not alone another series?
This entire accounting book is in question and answer format and where appropriate, the answers have been expanded, resulting in a lot more information jam-packed into a fewer number of pages. This book isnÂt intended to make the reader an accountant. If it does, itÂs an added bonus! This book is primarily geared towards the small to medium size business owners those in employed in business in the capacity of a non-accountant position but have to make decisions based on data from financial reporting prepared by others. A good example are loan officers. Those purchasing a residential condominium, a time share will examine the condominiumÂs association financial position. Replacing the accountant and the attorney shouldnÂt even come to mind, but wouldnÂt it be nice if they could speak the accountants language and actually do some analysis them selves if they want to?
The author says; ÂThis book explains the difference between cash and accrual accounting, but adopts the accrual method throughout as financial statements prepared under the accrual method can be audited by an independent auditor complying with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. (GAAP) Even small to medium size businesses, at times, are required to provide audited financial statements. The business might be able to get away with un-audited financial reporting, but they most likely wonÂt get away indefinitely under the cash method of accounting.Â
This book covers the balance sheet, income statement (profit and loss), inventory, payroll, accounts receivable/accounts receivable long-term liabilities, warranties, dividends and an introduction to off balance sheet financing. The author set out writing a workshop manual that would be used at his accounting seminars and workshops, but he realized there is a huge market for an accounting book that can be adapted for a wide audience. Before the book went to press it was reviewed by a former school teacher who is now employed within the Training Departments of one of the largest financial services organizations in the world. He had no accounting knowledge. It was his task to take the first draft and evaluate it from both instructor and studentÂs perspective.
We heard through the grapevine, the author autographed a hardcover copy last week. It goes like this: ÂCongratulations on purchasing the finest accounting book in itÂs class anywhere in the worldÂ
