Site Seeks Veterans' Stories

I Served America.com seeks veterans' stories.

Champaign, IL (PRWEB) October 5, 2005 -- I Served America.com (www.iservedamerica.com), a web site developed to collect, preserve and publish veteran's stories, is seeking contributors. Contributors must be veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and their stories should be limited to 500 words or less.

"The stories we are looking for can be of combat, humor, friendship, sacrifice - anything related to life in uniform," says Dan Kennedy, the site's creator. "We want compelling stories that will capture the history of our armed forces from the individual veteran's point of view."

To submit stories, contributors should go to the "In Your Words" tab on the site's home page and simply paste stories in the block provided for that purpose. "We'll post the best and, we hope, publish a volume of stories," adds Kennedy.

"My hope," says Kennedy, who served as a captain in the Army during the Vietnam era, "is that we will have an avalanche of stories sufficient to publish a book about the bravery and sacrifice of so many. We are living history and it would be a shame to have our stories die with us. The 2000 census reported that there were 26.4 million veterans in the United States, representing almost 13 percent of the population. That's a lot of stories."

Stories can be submitted from I Served America's website, www.iservedamerica.com.

In addition to preserving veterans' stories, I Served America.com also provides links of interest to veterans, forums to assist veterans seeking friends with whom they served and to post questions for help, tee shirts proclaiming veteran status and news of interest to veterans that is updated daily. The tee shirts have the branch of service with the words, "I Served America" on the front and, on the back, the words, "You're Welcome."
