Buffalo SCREAMS: Horror Films and Horror Film Festivals
Maybe its something in that Lake Erie water, or its close proximity to the Love Canal, but for whatever reason, Buffalo is booming when it comes to the horror film.
(PRWEB) October 5, 2005 -- Buffalo SCREAMS, The Buffalo International Horror Film Festival officially launched its 2006 season with a new website and a disturbing new poster. Accepting submissions of horror films from around the world, Buffalo SCREAMS will run from April 21 to April 23, 2006 at the Dipson Theaters located in downtown Buffalo, New York.
The people responsible for the festival are Greg Lamberson, director of the recently re-released cult horror film Slime City and author of the award-winning novel Personal Demons; Emil Novak, director of the upcoming Tesla The Accumulator, a feature film based on the legendary inventor; and David R. Williams, publisher of Red Scream Magazine and CEO of Red Scream Films.
"We are three horror fans who somehow found each other," said Williams laughing, "We saw festivals in other cities, in particular the Toronto Film Festival, and we thought, man, that is only 90 minutes away! How come Toronto has a film festival and Buffalo doesnt?"
"We are also working on our home horror movie. It is a supernatural thriller. I wrote the script and am producing. Greg is directing. Emil is director of photography. It is about a group of ghost hunters who spend a night in a long abandoned, and supposedly haunted, train terminal. As it turns out, the terminal is indeed haunted, and the ghosts do not like the living invading their space. We are shooting in November and plan for an April Release," he said.
Their love of film in general, and horror films in particular, lead to the decision to host a horror film festival.
They have just started accepting submissions and expect to receive 100s of 'screeners' in the next few months. Out of all those submissions they will select only 15 at the most.
Single tickets will be $8.00. A 3-day pass will sell for $50.00.
"A 3-day pass gets the bearer into all the screenings and into the various special events. Were looking at also offering them advance seating but that is still in the works," Williams said.
What do the trio hope to get out of all this?
"We are not in it for the money thats for sure," said Williams. "We are doing it because we love horror films and because, well, because we're just not right. Probably had to do with me growing up in the Love Canal and with Emil spending most of his life reading comic books. Im not sure whats up with Greg."
