Ten Commandments Judge Seeks Governorship
Judge Roy Moore Courts Alabama Electorate.
(PRWEB) October 4, 2005 -- On Monday, October 3rd, Judge Roy Moore announced his candidacy for the position of governor in Alabama. Former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Roy Moore announced his candidacy officially at a meeting open to the public hosted by the We Want Moore 2006 Committee, which is co-chaired by George Hundley and Roy Smith. The meeting was held at 1:00 p.m., in the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts, corner of Fifth and Broad in Downtown Gadsden. Judge Moore's hometown.
Moore running for office on his unquestioned reputation as a man willing to uphold his personal views on basic Constitutional rights. He was joined by his friend, National Clergy County President, Rob Schenk, who attended The Red Mass with President Bush. The Red Mass is held before the opening of each term of the U. S. Supreme Court.
Moore was forced off the bench in November 2003 for defying a Federal judge's order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from public display in the state judicial building. During his attempt to appeal the ruling, there were questions about whether or not he was going to run as a Presidential or Gubernatorial candidate. After his appeal was overturned, he began his deliberations. Former U. S. Senator, Georgia Governor, author and US. Marine, Zell Miller, said, "Throughout recorded history, brave men have been called on to stand take a stand--sometimes for country, sometimes for family, sometimes for the Lord above. Roy Moore is such a man."
In our era, the strict Constitutionalist interpretation of the separation of Church and State has led to a variety of rulings that, to many, has removed God from the schools and government institutions. To those who oppose these doctrines, Judge Moore's refusal to remove the Ten Commandments monument was an heroic defense of a fundamental right to religious liberty. Oliver North, host of "War Stories" on the Fox News Channel, stated emphatically, "Roy Moore is a proven fighter for his faith and freedom."
