Kindred Media Group Acquires Rights to Michael Hoffman's Pic, "Game 6"
Acclaimed novelist's debut makes a metaphor of life out of a moment in time.
West Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) October 7, 2005 -- Kindred Media Group has acquired North American distribution rights to Michael Hoffman’s “Game 6,” starring Michael Keaton and Robert Downey Jr., it was announced today. The film is based on an original screenplay by acclaimed novelist Don DeLillo, and directed by Michael Hoffman. The film is produced by Amy Robinson, Griffin Dunne, Leslie Urdang, and Christina Weiss Lurie. “Game 6” will open in major markets including Boston, New York and Los Angeles on Friday, March 3, 2006.
“This film has been a work of passion and I am very pleased to be releasing the film with Kindred Media Group,” said director Michael Hoffman.
“We are extremely excited about releasing the screenwriting debut of acclaimed novelist Don DeLillo,” said Jeffrey D. Erb, President of Kindred Media Group. “With such incredible performances by such terrific actors and director, this film explores a moment in history by making it a metaphor for people’s lives. We can’t wait to bring it to audiences across the country.”
“We are thrilled with the support that Kindred Media Group has pledged to ‘Game 6,’” said Leslie Urdang of Serenade Films. “Don Delillo is one of our country's most respected writers and Michael Hoffman and Michael Keaton bring this deeply original story to the screen with precision, surprise, and humor.”
On the eve of the opening of his newest play playwright Nicky Rogan (Michael Keaton) is fixated on failure. But not without reason. As Rogan's day begins, his marriage is in shambles, his lead actor has a parasite in his brain causing him to forget his lines, there is asbestos in the air, and he is terrified of the feared critic Steven Schwimmer (Robert Downey Jr.) who is so hated that he's taken to carrying a gun to the theatre.
All of this and it just so happens to be October 25, 1986. A day that every Red Sox fan will never forget. And Nicky Rogan has been a die hard Red Sox fan forever.
Director Michael Hoffman describes the movie as "poised between realism and paranoid fantasy."
“Game 6” is the first produced screenplay by acclaimed novelist Don DeLillo who has received multiple awards including the National Book Award for White Noise, The PEN/Faulkner Award for Mao II and whose other novels include Americana, and The Body Artist.
