Buyoutsidethebox.com Affords a New Venue for Art Buyers
Online gallery provides art lovers new venue for affordable art.
(PRWEB) October 11, 2005 -- Ruth Mitchell always thought she would own an art gallery some day, but when the time came she had to be honest with herself. Sitting in one place all day was not something she thought she could mentally and physically commit to. After a long career as a writer, often interviewing artists and writing about their work, Mitchell didn’t want to give up on that idea, however. She spent several months mulling over in her mind what she wanted to do, what she was good at, and how her changing lifestyle as an empty-nester would work with the new company she wanted to start.
Through those weeks of effervescent turmoil, Mitchell bombarded everyone she knew with her evolving plans, eventually developing a business plan for an innovative online gallery called Buyoutsidethebox.com.
“The concept is a hybrid of several proven online marketing techniques,” she says. “We’ve added our own spin to them. Artists that are comfortable with computers, and they are a growing population, can upload their information and visual presentation themselves in the middle of the night if that fits their schedule,” the writer turned business executive says with a slight Southern drawl.
“Our mission is to distribute, if you will, wonderful art and handmade things direct from the artists to those people that will love and enjoy these items the artists have created. By nature, individuals creating art, or anything else for that matter by their own hands, have a hard time reaching a buying market. We’re here to change all that.”
Inspired by her own habit of buying art or unique items when she travels, Mitchell often enjoyed returning from her trips with gifts for friends and family. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to the department store and purchasing something that is mass produced, but there are many of us out there that have more specific buying interests,” she says.
Artist Priscilla Humay, of Chicago is one of the most dramatic success stories in the fledgling company’s first year of business. “Within 24 hours of my work being posted on the site, I sold something,” says Humay, an award-winning artist who creates dramatic skyscapes with colored pencils.
“We are dedicated to making the site accessible to a global market. Why shouldn’t an executive in Houston say, be able to purchase a beautiful work of art made by an African artist in the middle of the night? This concept is so much more exciting than a traditional gallery experience because of the accessibility the internet provides us. Who has time to travel to major cities and then pound the pavement for the art we are looking for when we can do it from home in our pajamas?
Built into the business plan are precautions so that buyers will be satisfied and return to the site for more art. “We have a very fair and sound return policy and stipulations for insured shipping so that our one-time customer becomes our return customer,” Mitchell says.
Buyoutsidethebox.com is dedicated to Creative Consumerism™, providing art and fine, handmade things to a global marketplace of discerning buyers.
