KUA Employees Head Back to Hurricane Region

Employees of Kissimmee Utility Authority will work with employees of Long Beach, Miss. to help re-establish customer service and municipal billing functions in a community devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

KISSIMMEE, Fla., (PRWEB) October 7, 2005 -- Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) employees are back in the Gulf Coast tonight assisting a community that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Two utility employees -- Robin Helquist and Gloria Fisher -- left Kissimmee on Oct. 5 for Long Beach, Miss. They will return to Central Florida on Oct. 13.

Located six miles from Gulfport, Miss., Long Beach lost more than 75 percent of its commercial and residential structures to the hurricane.

Helquist, KUA's manager of customer reading and billing services, and Fisher, customer service representative, will work with Long Beach city employees to help re-establish customer service and municipal billing functions.

KUA linemen traveled to Kiln, Mississippi in September and spent nearly two weeks restoring electric service in areas decimated by Hurricane Katrina.

The city of Kissimmee formally adopted Long Beach as its sister city in mid-September.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
