TravelPost.com Names Greg Jones To its Board of Directors
Founder of WorldRes will take seat immediately.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 11, 2005 -- TravelPost.com (www.travelpost.com), the premier source for personalized hotel ratings and travel advisory services, today announced Greg Jones, co-founder and former CEO of WorldRes, has joined its board of directors. He joins Bob Zipp of Amicus Capital and Sam Shank, CEO of TravelPost.com.
As CEO of WorldRes, Jones grew the company to be one of the leading online hotel reservation companies, with a network of 30 thousand hotels and more than two thousand Web distribution partners. He led the company to profitability in 2001 with $240 million of gross hotel bookings, placing WorldRes as the number three player in online hotel reservations.
"What got me excited about TravelPost.com is that it captures the demographic information of the reviewers, which allows a consumer to personalize their search and receive truly relevant hotel ratings," said Jones. "By combining user generated feedback, personalization, and online travel, TravelPost.com has created a tremendous service for consumers and a very valuable source of leads for online travel companies."
"TravelPost.com's mission is to build the most trusted resource for researching, planning, and reserving hotels and travel," said Shank. "Having Greg on the board of directors, with his deep experience in the online travel industry, is a key step in enabling us to do that."
Since leaving WorldRes, Jones has pursued "angel" investing and advising early stage companies. Earlier in his career, he was Director of the Advanced Technology Group and held senior management positions in Marketing with Synopsys, the leader in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software. Prior to working in technology, Jones spent a number of years in management consulting with McKinsey & Company and Edgar, Dunn & Company. He holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies and Economics from Dartmouth College.
In July 2005, TravelPost.com announced it had raised a seed round of funding totaling more than $1 million. Lead investors include seed stage venture capital fund Amicus Capital, and Arba Seed Investment Group. The funding is going toward infrastructure to handle traffic growth, expanding the team to continue to build the product and feature set, and marketing efforts.
