With the introduction “Page Groups” you can produce unlimited sets of pages that operate on different database tables and queries. You can design flows between groups. Page Groups can be exported and shared between projects or between developers working against a common database. Page Groups fully integrate the existing security and e-commerce functionality allowing you to create advanced web applications. The new Derived Items allow you to create display items based on arithmetic or string manipulations of your database fields.
Even with many new options and functions, the program retains the simplicity and ease-of-use of earlier versions. In fact the addition of new pop up editors, a “Gen Genie,” a Settings Navigator, and global changes, make many tasks even easier than in previous versions.
As with previous versions, dbQwikSite can access almost any database. What is new in this version is additional support for mySQL hosted databases. A new X-Gen feature allows you to design using an MS Access or MS SQL database, and then publish pages that operate against mySQL databases. With X-Gen you no do not need to connect to a remote host or install mySQL on your PC to create web pages that will work with a mySQL database. Rounding out this cross platform functionality is a new tool to Import mySQL “exports” created by phpMyAdmin into a local copy in MS Access format allowing you to design “off-line” for databases already hosted on your mySQL server.
Version 4 also offers a host of enhancements to the page design. New page types add a Copy Record, and a HTML page to the existing list of: Add, Edit, Delete, Data List, Record Display, Master/Detail, Search, Email, Shopping Cart and Checkout pages. Other page design enhancements include: Button Navigators, Multi column layouts, CSS support, an integrated record layout designer, and automatically generated Control Panel pages.
