Groundbreaking New Book By Susan M. Watkins Reveals Why We Should Pay Attention To Those “What a Coincidence!” Moments
In "What a Coincidence! The WOW! Factor in Synchronicity and What It Means in Everyday Life," Susan M. Watkins reveals that single, seemingly inconsequential coincidences are often pieces of complex and meaningful “coincidence clusters.” Paying attention to them, she says, changes lives.
(PRWEB) October 13, 2005 -- For over 35 years author and former newspaper reporter Susan M. Watkins has been logging the coincidences in her life. In her new book, "What a Coincidence! The WOW! Factor in Synchronicity and What It Means in Everyday Life" (Moment Point Press, October 2005), she reveals that single, seemingly inconsequential coincidences are often pieces of larger, complex and meaningful “coincidence clusters.”
“We’re all familiar with single coincidences,” says Watkins. “An old friend calling seconds after she pops into your head. An unexpected check arriving in the mail just as you’re thinking you need more money to make it through the month. Everyday coincidences. So common we brush them aside without much thought. Yet in doing so we’re tossing away valuable information.”
Using personal examples to illustrate her point, Watkins explores two main questions in "What a Coincidence!": What do our personal coincidence clusters reveal to us about ourselves and our lives? And what do they reveal about human consciousness as a whole?
“What I discovered from logging coincidences over many years is that, like a detective, you begin to see connections and patterns. You begin to see clusters of coincidences that relate to one another, that seem to address a particular issue or problem or question in your life. In fact, you’ll often see a story-line begin to emerge. It’s as if part of you is telling you a story about yourself, to get your attention, and to provide important practical information. Or maybe even just to give you a thump on the head, saying ‘Hey, this is a glimpse at how consciousness works.’ It dramatically changes the way you see the world and your part in it.”
The topic seems to have touched a vein. Watkins is already receiving emails and letters from readers.
“They’re so amazed at what they start to experience, they want to tell me about it,” Watkins says. “What’s amazing to me personally—and what I didn’t expect—is how often these coincidence stories, from people I’ve never met, dovetail with something going on in my own life. Like the woman who wrote to me about a funny coincidence cluster involving a painting she bought directly from the artist, casually mentioning that she later purchased another painting from the same artist’s website; her letter arrived in my mailbox the day after I’d sent a check to an artist for one of his paintings, and had picked out another one to buy later from his website!”
Does she have plans to explore coincidences further?
“With the kind of feedback I’m getting from readers, I guess it’s not a coincidence that I can already envision a follow-up book forming,” Watkins says. “We’ll see.”
