LOS ANGELES, Calif. (PRWEB) October 14, 2005

Sparkplug Press, a premiere publisher of high-quality, non-fiction books on the horror genre, today announces the October 24, 2005 release of Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th, the definitive tome on the making of the most successful horror franchise in cinema history.

A landmark chronicle, Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th takes you inside the ground-breaking Friday the 13th phenomenon like no other book ever has. Author Peter M. Bracke guides us from the series’ humblest beginnings to its unprecedented success, through the political and moral minefields of the 1980’s and 90’s, to the blockbuster release of 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason. The culmination of more than three years of tireless research, including over two hundred new interviews with the series’ cast and crew – among them, Kevin Bacon, Robert Englund, Kelly Rowland, Jason Ritter, Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover and Kelly Hu – the author set out to create a comprehensive, meticulously researched digest of each production.

The author’s passion so impressed the creator of the Friday the 13th franchise, Sean S. Cunningham, that he agreed to contribute a Foreword to the book. “Over the past few years, I have gotten to know Peter as he has carefully and painstakingly assembled his research,” says Cunningham, who produced and directed the original Friday the 13th in 1980. “At this point, I’m sure that Peter’s the world’s most informed expert on the subject,” he laughs, adding, “Now I think it’s hilarious that when I have a question about events concerning any one of the movies, I always call Peter to ask him what really happened. Peter knows!”

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th also takes readers on a visually rich journey featuring over six-hundred rare and never-before-seen images. Packed with newly-restored photographs direct from the studio vaults, plus storyboards, concept art, publicity materials and rare archival documents, Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th is the most lavish and extensive book ever produced on the making of a horror film series.

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th will be supported by an aggressive mass media marketing campaign encompassing national television, print and online outlets. An exclusive launch party will also coincide with the book’s release on October 22, 2005, at Universal Studios CityWalk Hollywood. The Friday the 13th Phenomenon

Now celebrating its silver anniversary, the Friday the 13th film franchise has proven to be as unstoppable at the box office for the past twenty-five years as its machete-wielding villain. Chronicling the murderous exploits of Jason Voorhees, the iconic, hockey-masked serial killer, Friday the 13th has become a true multimedia juggernaut: the series has spawned eleven installments (and counting), a hit syndicated television drama, a collection of popular young adult fiction novels, a smash video game, nearly a dozen top-selling DVDs, and an extensive line of licensed collectibles, including magazines, posters, comic books, model kits -- even a lunchbox. Revenue figures are as staggering as they are relentless: over 85 million tickets sold and $525 million in domestic box office receipts,(1) over five million DVDs shipped(2) and nearly one hundred licensed products that have grossed over $125 million in sales.(3) The most recent installment in the film series, the blockbuster Freddy vs. Jason, made cinema history with a domestic gross of $35.6 million in its first three days. Earning over $100 million worldwide, it was the highest-grossing horror film of 2003.
