Discovery Channel's MythBusters Bust Into Magazine Role
The creators of Robot magazine, which debuts on newsstands November 1, want readers to take away two things from each quarterly issue: know-how and fun. So it’s no surprise Robot’s publishers were thrilled to enlist Discovery Channel’s popular “MythBusters,” Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage and Grant Imahara as Editorial Board contributors. For the magazine’s first issue, the three put their talents as builders and testers of unique technology to work for a cover story on a fun kit build and customization project.
(PRWEB) October 17, 2005 -- The creators of Robot magazine, which debuts on newsstands November 1, want readers to take away two things from each quarterly issue: know-how and fun.
While best known popularly as the stars of the “MythBusters” series and as hosts of other Discovery Channel special programs, Jamie, Adam and Grant are looking forward to sharing their extensive and varied behind the scenes design and engineering expertise with Robot’s readers. All three are accomplished experts in animatronics and visual effects for television and film. Jamie owns a special effects shop, M5 Industries, that specializes in animatronics, robotics and radio controlled props for television commercials and feature films. Adam is also a prolific designer of animatronics and special effects for films and television in his own right with specialties in sculpture and graphic design.
Grant Imahara, who works as a builder on “MythBusters” and other projects for M5 Industries, brings an impressive list of accomplishments to the team. Grant has not only worked on the design teams for such radio control and robotic celebrities as Star Wars’ R2D2 and the Energizer Bunny, he is the author of “Kickin’ Bot: An Illustrated Guide to Building Combat Robots.”
Explains Robot’s Editor-in-Chief, Tom Atwood, “Jamie, Adam and Grant are skillful builders and manipulators of technology who will offer our readers valuable insights to help them build their own projects and form a better understanding of robotics applications. Their backgrounds and proven ability to engage audiences with science and engineering projects make them a natural fit for a magazine like Robot, which was created to make exciting new robotics technologies accessible to anyone who has an interest.”
Robot will be published quarterly by Maplegate Media Group in Ridgefield, CT. The first issue, Winter 2006, will be on sale November 1, 2005. Additional content, including short video clips of the “MythBusters” VEX robot build will be available November 1st on the magazine’s website, WWW.BOTMAG.COM. Maplegate Media group is also the publisher of leading radio control hobby magazines, Fly RC and RC Driver.
“MythBusters” airs Wednesdays at 9PM (ET/PT) on the Discovery Channel.
