NSTAR Partners With Detectent to Battle Theft of Service; Detectent’s RevEnhance Solution Identifies Theft of Service Cases That Might Otherwise Go Undetected

NSTAR Electric & Gas Corporation, Massachusetts’ largest investor-owned electric and gas utility, has chosen Detectent’s RevEnhance solution to proactively discover cases of theft of service.

Escondido, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2005 -- Detectent, Inc., a pioneer in theft of service detection for the utility industry, announced today that NSTAR Electric & Gas Corporation, Massachusetts’ largest investor-owned electric and gas utility, has chosen Detectent’s solution to proactively discover cases of theft of service.

“At NSTAR we know that theft of electricity is not only dangerous, it's very costly to customers,” said Bill Van Dam, NSTAR’s Director of Credit, Collections and Revenue Protection. “In the past the company actively investigated potential theft through tips and field investigations. By supplementing those efforts with Detectent’s RevEnhance solution we can search for theft of service electronically, enhancing safety and further-protecting the company and our paying customers."

Detectent has revolutionized Revenue Protection with its state-of-the-art RevEnhance solution. Through detailed analysis of a utility’s account base, Detectent proactively identifies suspected theft of service cases that otherwise might remain undetected. The algorithms used in the analysis combine consumption data, detailed information about each account and local environmental conditions to identify cases of probable theft of electric, water and gas service. Each suspect case is then reviewed and further analyzed by a Detectent team analyst. Cases for investigation are then passed onto the utility for further examination once the final analysis is completed.

“Our unique approach to detecting theft of service cases allows utilities to recover more revenue without requiring additional personnel,” said Michael Madrazo, President, Detectent. “We accomplish this by focusing on high-value theft of service cases and by eliminating false alarms before they are sent for investigation. The result is a significant increase in the amount of revenue recovered for each fielded case.”
