Georgia Tech Center for Distance Learning Deploys Automated Homework and Exam Process with Reportée SmartCover

The Georgia Institute of Technology’s Center for Distance Learning (CDL) has deployed Reportée SmartCover to replace manual assignment processing.

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) October 18, 2005 -- Today Reportée® announced that the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Center for Distance Learning (CDL) has deployed Reportée SmartCover to replace manual assignment processing.

“During the course of a semester, we receive thousands of assignment submissions with total page counts well into six figures, " stated Jeffrey P. Fischer, Director of IT Support Services for Georgia Tech's Distance Learning and Professional Education Office. "With all of this paperwork, many universities are attempting to define optimal document processes. Georgia Tech is always looking for technological solutions to integrate and automate numerous functions.”

Students login to CDL’s web portal and download a personalized Reportée SmartCover coversheet for each enrolled course to accompany their faxed assignments. A Biscom FAXCOM® fax server houses Reportée, receives the faxes and creates TIFF files. Using a Unique Identification system, Reportée automatically identifies and logs the assignment. Reportée sends students an email confirming receipt, or in the case of transmission problems, an error notification. Reportée then renames the file, converts it to a PDF, and routes it to the correct instructor for grading/review.

Professors either grade the assignments using electronic mark-up functionality, or print and grade the received assignments as hard copy. Assignments that are returned to CDL as hard copy are scanned at one of four Xerox WorkCentre® Pro advanced multifunction systems to Reportée, which then routes the assignment and notifies the student that their graded work is available to view via the web portal.
