Tibetan Buddhist Lama to Offer Teachings on Perfect Wisdom and the Feminine Divine

Kunzang Palyul Choling, Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Poolesville, MD will host Tibetan Buddhist teacher from October 19-23, 2005.

(PRWEB) October 16, 2005 -- From October 19 to 23, the Kunzang Palyul Chöling (KPC) temple in Poolesville, MD will host Tibetan Buddhist teachings by Khenpo Norgey on the subjects of perfect wisdom and the feminine divine.

Throughout the Buddhist world, devotees have supplicated the swift blessings of the Buddha in the female display known as Tara. The most common prayer is called the 21 Homages To Tara, consisting of a four-line verse of praise for each of Tara’s 21 forms. On Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20 at 7:30PM, Khenpo Norgey will discuss the origin and deeper significance of these mystical supplications.

Equally revered among Buddhists is the Heart Sutra. For more than 2000 years, this brief text has stood as the most concise and essential expression of the Buddha’s teachings on the perfection of wisdom. Its most famous line, “Form is emptiness; emptiness also is form”, has provided the basis for profound meditative inquiry over the centuries and inspired countless commentaries by the greatest Buddhist masters. To thoroughly explore its meaning, Khenpo Norgey will teach on the Heart Sutra in two sessions Saturday, October 22, from 10AM to noon and 2 to 4PM. Lunch will be provided.

For those who wish to enter into simple Buddhist chanting and meditation practice, Khenpo Norgey’s visit will culminate on Sunday, October 23 with a ceremonial initiation into the practice of Green Tara at 2:30PM.

He will also offer a general Buddhist talk at 11AM and again lunch will be provided between sessions.

Khenpo Norgey is a monk with the Namdroling Monastery of HH Penor Rinpoche in the Tibetan exile community of Bylakuppe in south India. He excelled while undergoing the rigorous nine-year course of study at the monastery’s Ngagyur Nyingmapa Institute and was one of the few graduates to be conferred the title of “khenpo”. This title indicates a combination of deep scholarly understanding along with the good personal qualities that manifest with internalizing the meaning of what one has learned. Khenpo will teach in English. There are suggested donations for each teaching session.

KPC is located at 18400 River Road in Poolesville, MD. For further information on Khenpo Norgey’s teaching visit, www.kpc-md-tara.org or call 301-349-0440.
