New Lessons in Preparedness Should Be Taken from Recent Hurricanes & Earthquakes

Recent earthquakes and hurricanes should serve as a catalyst for people to plan ahead for all kinds of disasters and catastrophic events. By pre-placing emergency supplies of food and water in strategic locations, surviving the critical first 72 hours after an event should be easier to accomplish.

Camarillo, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2005 -- Howard Wallace, President of Survivor Industries, Inc., stresses the need to plan ahead. As a pioneer and world leader in the emergency preparedness field for over 20 years, Wallace is often one of the first experts called in the aftermath of an emergency.

After Hurricane Katrina, Wallace donated more than 15,000 survival kits and 25,000 “space-age” emergency blankets to help victims in Mississippi recover. But while he appreciates the opportunity to help during recovery, Wallace notes that there are lessons to be learned from the recent hurricanes as well as from the earthquake in Pakistan.

“Time and again, experts around the world have advised people to have at least a 72 hour supply of safe food and water on hand in case of emergency,” explained Wallace. “72 hours is the critical period between an event such as a hurricane, earthquake, flood or other disaster and the arrival of outside help. If nothing else has been learned in the wake of recent disasters, the need to plan ahead for that 72 hour period should be clear.”

Survivor Industries’ Mainstay ™ Food and Mainstay ™ Water have been used around the world by the Red Cross, the United Nations and the United States Coast Guard because they have been tested to withstand extreme temperature variations throughout a five year shelf life. The food and purified water are packaged in pre-measured metallic sachets to maintain freshness, quality and to ease in distribution. With “strategic pre-placement” of Survivor packages, victims can benefit from quick and easy access to a safe source of food and water.

“The goal of our products is to sustain people who may be cut off from other sources of food and water and must support themselves until relief services are able to reach them,” Wallace explained. “That is why the five year shelf life is so important. If you live or work in an area that is at risk for a hurricane, earthquake, tornado or blizzard, you should place a supply of Mainstay food and water almost anywhere people spend a great deal of time, such as home, office and car, so that when the need arises, the material is already on hand and ready for use.” Survivor makes pre-packaged kits in sizes to support from one to ten people. Bulk supplies of Mainstay food and water are available for use by schools, businesses and government agencies.

Survivor Industries, Inc. produces up to 20 tons of food per day and 3,000 or more cases of purified water per week. In addition, it is one of the largest distributors of mylar-type emergency blankets and cocoon sleeping bags, which are included in many of its pre-packaged kits. Survivor’s emergency products are distributed throughout the United States and in many countries around the world. To assure ongoing quality, the manufacturing and assembly of the emergency supplies takes place at the company’s headquarters in Camarillo, California.
