Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar Welcomes Maritri as Part of its Jazzy Tuesdays Series, October 18th at 8:00p.m.

Singer, Pianist, Guitarist to Perform New and Original Work Along With Tracks From Her CD, 'In Your Room.'

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 16, 2005 -- Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar, one of New York City’s premier venues for live music, welcomes Maritri on Tuesday, October 18th. As part of the Sugar Bar’s Jazzy Tuesday series, Maritri will perform selections from her CD, In Your Room as well as new and original works.

Maritri is a pianist, vocalist, guitarist, arranger and composer, whose recent performances include Joe’s Pub, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Cutting Room, the Apollo Theater with Sekou Sundiata and Ani Di Franco, Aaron Davis Hall, the 92nd Street Y-Makor/Steinhart Center, the Women's Jazz Festival at the Schomberg Center and Central Park’s Summerstage with Tamar Kali, Borders Books, Rush Arts Gallery, BRIC Studios, South of the Navy Yard Artists Indie Music Festival.

Maritri studied jazz with Grady Tate and Geri Allen and classical with Raymond Jackson and Russell Baldwin before making her classical piano debut at Steinway Hall in New York in 2002. She has performed at Nina Simone’s family memorial with Patti LaBelle, Nina Simone, Valerie Simpson, Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. She has also opened for Gladys Knight, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Stanley Jordan, Toshi Reagon, Hiram Bullock, Muzz Skillins, Vinx and the Indigo Girls with her band Hue. Maritri has appeared on the BCAT show, “Straight Up! With Stella Winston,” BET on Jazz as a musician and host and was chosen as one of the background singers for Barbara Streisand at the Clinton inaugural gala
