Gig Harbor, WA (PRWEB) October 18, 2005
Get ready to tap, tap, tap to the rhyming beat of favorite nursery rhymes -- with a twist -- as the delightful new Nursery Tap, Hip to Toe series of DVDs launches October 18, 2005 from Nursery Tap LLC. Set to the toe-prancing, hip hop, tap dancing of dancer's feet, the initial title in the release, "Nursery Tap, Hip to Toe Volume One" is the first children's DVD to ever win the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award.
Nursery Tap Hip to Toe series of DVDs are a charming, challenging and unique presentation of sights, sounds of rhythm, storytelling, dance and song--designed to introduce the Mother Goose set to the joys and wonders of the performing arts. Little actors and dancers will love the theatrical staging and acting out of rhymes, and will simultaneously be exposed to three of the major dance disciplines; tap, ballet and hip hop.
Nursery Tap, Hip to Toe Volume One, created and co-choreographed by producer-director-actress Juleen Murray Shaw, co-owner of The Performance Place arts studio in Gig Harbor, Washington, is a collection of 30 classic nursery rhymes set to the dance styles of tap, ballet and hip hop. It is approximately 33 minutes and will be available for a suggested retail price of $19.95, which includes a free companion soundtrack CD.
The DVD features each rhyme playfully voiced by Shaw and Brynn Bromley, a young Los Angeles actress, and set to its own dance vignette. The dancers, Bromley and Krystal McMullin (a teacher at The Performing Place and co-choreographer) are featured from the waist down with the bright, bold costumes so even the youngest of viewers can focus on the rhythmic movements without facial distractions.
"I became fascinated with nursery rhymes, the rhythm and musicality of them, and I thought what could be done with these tiny nuggets of literature to make them come alive again in a fresh, new way," says Shaw. "It struck me that the rhythm of nursery rhymes and the rhythm of tap could be woven together, and I let myself be guided from there."
Softer rhymes like "Little White Feathers" and "Star Light, Star Bright," are brought to life on "Nursery Tap, Hip to Toe Volume One" through the grace and beauty of ballet. More lively rhymes like "Peter Piper" and "Old King Cole" are set to animated hip hop steps. And the most rhythmic rhymes, like "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" and "Pat-A Cake," are told through the engaging style of tap.
Special features on "Nursery Tap, Hip to Toe Volume One" DVD include instruction of basic ballet and tap steps, repeat play option and chapter selections.
In addition to the Peabody award, "Nursery Tap, Hip to Toe Volume One" has received a Parent's Choice Recommended Award, Dr. Toy's Best Smart Play/Best Toy Products award, iParenting Media's Best Products award, a KIDS FIRST! Endorsement, The Dove Foundation's Seal of Approval (Highest Rating, 5 Doves), Creative Child Magazine's Preferred Choice Award and the Telly Bronze Award.
